Mission of the S2A Economic Interest Group
- Operate and develop two wind tunnels: a1:1-scale aeroacoustic wind tunneland a2:5-scale wind tunnel, each featuring three key capabilities: the ability to account for aerodynamic noise reduction, the capability to conduct simulations in moving-object and rotating-wheel modes, and the ability to control crosswind forces.
- To establish a center of excellence in automotive aerodynamics research based on theCNRT Automotive Aeroacoustics Research Network, by makingits expertise and facilities available to laboratories and industry.
Historique du GIE S2A
The articles of incorporation for the Economic Interest Grouping for Automotive Aeroacoustic Wind Tunnels (GIE S2A) were signed on March 14, 2001, by the three partners of the GIE: PSA Peugeot Citroën, Renault SA, and the CNAM.
Le GIE S2A est opérationnel courant 2003 et assure depuis cette date l’exploitation de ses deux souffleries. Les performances de ce moyen d’expérimentation le placent d’emblée parmi les meilleurs du monde.
Since then, the GIE has invested annually to ensure that this facility remains at the cutting edge of technology and to offer new services to manufacturers and research laboratories.
Notably: PIV in 2005, Acoustic Portal in 2009, Acoustic Module in 2011.
In recent years, the GIE has expanded into other industrial sectors and provides services to clients in a variety of fields, including construction, wind power, aerospace, and shipbuilding.

The confidentiality of trials is a constant concern for GIE S2A.
From the outset, the layout of the premises was designed to ensure confidentiality; access to confidential areas is strictly limited and monitored at all times, and very strict procedures are in place regarding access control, the dissemination of results, photography, and so on.

- Reducing our environmental footprint and protecting the environment. We comply with all relevant regulations and take steps to prevent environmental risks. We factor this objective into our purchasing decisions and supplier selection. We plan to obtain ISO 14001 certification in 2021, which will formalize this commitment.
- The competence and impartiality of our staff. These qualities are essential to earning our clients’ trust. The availability of our facilities, the quality of our measurements, and operational excellence are our ongoing priorities. We are in the process of obtaining ISO 17025 accreditation for our full-scale wind tunnel, which is expected to be completed in 2022.
